The Field Workers
CORE works with Nepali organizations to carry out our projects and programs. We currently (2015) work with Society for the Urban Poor (SOUP), Faselung Social Service society (FSS), and independent groups helping survivors of the recent disaster. In previous years, CORE worked with rhest and (MUS). These three organizations have staff or hire field workers for our projects.
The field workers facilitating CORE's activities are all very committed individuals - some had worked as volunteers for our Nepali partner organisation, SOUP, for as much as 17 years. They work in the blazing sun, pouring monsoon rain, winter fog... amidst the chaos of the vegetable market and the squalor of the fruit market and garbage dump of Kathmandu. They are committed to working with these poorest people in Kathmandu, who eke out a living selling vegetables, portering fruit, and sorting through garbage for recyclable items.
Frances Klatzel, Chairperson
Writer and photographer Frances recently co-founded CORE with Karen in 2005. The present focus of CORE’s work is in Nepal, where she has lived and worked for over two decades - first, amongst the Sherpa people in the Khumbu region of Nepal in the 1980s and more recently, living in Kathmandu writing, publishing, and documenting and evaluating development experiences.
